Increase torrent speed using Torrent Ratio Keeper
This seemed like a pretty easy to set up program, right from the beginning of the install. I'm using Win7, but the same basic process should apply for other versions of Windows.
I grabbed the download from the Torrent Ratio Keeper homepage, and ran the setup file… wow, that was fast! Running the program for the first time brought up a setup wizard. The sliders let me set up how much it would boost my ratio by, along with a few checkboxes for setting "Expert Settings." I started by just picking about a 50% boost to my upload ratio, to see how it worked. The wizard mentions that I could change any of the options later, so I didn't spend too much time worrying about them for now.
So far, so good. Next the wizard told me to start up my torrent client. I fired up Vuze/Azureus as admin, per TRK's suggestion, and the wizard seemed to find it without any problems. If you're using another supported client (like uTorrent,) it should find it just as easily. At this point, all that was left to do was click "Finish," and it was all set. It saw my trackers, and seemed to be applying all the settings from the wizard, as default. On the "Advanced" tab, I could even adjust the settings per tracker, nice for some of those membership sites. Now to see how much this thing could increase torrent speed. From here, all I had to do was wait. After it had run a while and tracked some data, its statistics tab generated some nice charts of how much it had boosted my traffic. In the meantime though, my torrents had already begun to speed up. The difference was noticeable, in a very short time. By the time the statistics came up, I was able to see the how much the program had been able to boost my ratio (and thereby increase torrent speed) – right at about 50%, as I'd set in the settings.
Color me impressed! I went back to settings and got a bit greedy, bumping the settings up higher, and letting it gather some statistics again. Once again, it managed to bump up my ratio, and increase torrent speed even more.
Going back into settings again, I found some of the other settings pretty interesting. I can act like a seeder (even if I didn't have all the files) – no more hit and run problems! I can also emulate upload problems, in which case the tracker doesn't count any of your traffic at all (up or down.) There's also a clever little thing called the "Smart Traffic Multiply" setting. It seems that this keeps slightly adjusting how much 'fake' upload you report, so that your upload amounts look more natural. It was on by default, and seems like a pretty clever setting, so I left that one alone.
Overall, this program is very easy to use to increase torrent speed, with no hassle at all. You've got to try it!
