How torrent speed increasing works?

I wanted to make sure to increase torrent speed as much as possible, so I gave Torrent Ratio Keeper's "Monster Edition" a try. After seeing the great results, I got curious about how it worked. When I looked into it, here's what I found:

When you're downloading a torrent, and connected to its "swarm," all your peers and all the seeds communicate statistics with each other, telling how much data they have sent out to other peers, how much they have downloaded, and more.

Most clients and trackers will also use this data to make sure that people who have uploaded a large amount on this particular torrent will get the best upload speeds. Your peers will dedicate more of their upload speed to you, and your torrent download speed will be much faster.

However, when you haven't uploaded much yet, you probably won't get that special treatment. Your peers see you as a newcomer, and don't send much data your way. We've all seen that slow start, when you first begin many downloads, as you wait for the speeds to gradually get better (and sometimes they never seem to.)

In order to increase torrent speed, Torrent Ratio Keeper will make the tracker think that you've seeded much more data, by sending altered statistics to the tracker. Now the tracker and your peers will think that your upload/download ratio is extremely high, and it will rush to send you more data. The really beautiful part about this is that this Torrent Ratio Keeper program even has some settings that let you do this without the tracker detecting it! There's so many nice ways of configuring this thing that you can really get it working just how you want it to. After looking into it a little bit, I've found that it seems to be safe to use with just about any tracker, if you set it up right. The FAQ on the program's homepage has a few tips about this topic.

So basically, if you make the server think that you're seeding large volumes of data (even though you aren't!) then you also increase torrent speed by huge amounts.
